The most important thing to understand
SafeAlert gives guidance, not guarantees. A result of “probably safe” does not mean a message definitely is safe. Always check directly with the organisation involved before sending money or sharing details.
1. Who we are
SafeAlert is operated by [YOUR COMPANY NAME], registered in England and Wales, company number [NUMBER], at [YOUR REGISTERED ADDRESS].
2. What SafeAlert is
SafeAlert is an information service. We publish guidance about scams circulating in the UK and offer a tool that checks messages for the warning signs of a scam.
We are not:
- A bank, or connected to any bank
- The police, Action Fraud, or any government department
- A regulated financial adviser
- A legal service
Nothing on SafeAlert is financial or legal advice. For financial advice, speak to a firm on the Financial Conduct Authority register.
3. The message checker
The checker looks for patterns common to scams. It is helpful, but it is not perfect. It may flag a genuine message as suspicious, and it may fail to spot a new or unusual scam.
Always verify independently. Contact the organisation using a number from your card, your bill, or their official app. Never use a number or link from the message itself.
4. Your account
- You must be 16 or over and give accurate information.
- Keep your password to yourself.
- You may delete your account at any time from My account.
- We may suspend an account that is being used to abuse or overload the service.
5. Paying
- Paid plans renew automatically until you cancel.
- Cancel at any time from My account. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Introductory prices apply to the first billing period only, then the standard price applies.
- Prices include VAT where it applies.
- Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations you have 14 days to change your mind and get a full refund, unless you have used the service in that time.
- If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, cancel through that store. We cannot cancel it for you.
6. What you agree not to do
- Copy our guides and republish them as your own
- Use automated tools to scrape or overload the service
- Use SafeAlert to test or refine scams
- Upload other people’s personal information into the checker
7. Our content
The guides, alerts and design of SafeAlert belong to us. You are welcome to share links, and to quote short passages with credit. Please do not copy whole guides.
8. Our liability
We work hard to be accurate and to stay available, but we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or that every scam will be detected.
We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded under UK law. Otherwise, and to the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
We are not liable for losses caused by a scam itself. Acting on the guidance here is your own decision.
9. Ending this agreement
You can stop using SafeAlert at any time by deleting your account. We may close an account that breaks these terms, and will normally tell you why.
10. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is significant we will email you at least 14 days beforehand.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes may be brought in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your own country.
